Ceramics

I make useful objects that bring me joy, inspired by simple beauty and function. Childhood memories visiting my grandparent’s farm, and being in nature spark my creative process. I want each piece to have a purpose and feel unique and special. I don’t consider myself a production potter, (I’m not that disciplined), but rather a curious wonderer discovering joy, one pot at a time.

Hand built pottery demonstration using handmade ceramic stamps. Clay will by available to play with and try out stamping your own designs.

The studio/gallery is in a stand alone building. Park along the gravel drive and walk across a flat lawn to one step up to the porch and one step up into the building.

Painting, Printmaking

You will see subjects with a domestic or a natural theme painted using conventional approaches to convey nostalgia and tranquility. I seek solid composition and playful and unexpected results. In painting I believe in balanced thinking: not too much not too little, hopefully keeping both the painter and the viewer engaged.

I will be showing the four stages of making a painting: “Placement,” “Background,” “Shadows,” and “Light.”

Plenty of parking, groomed lawns, and mowed trails, minimal stairs and comfortable buildings with abundant light and new air conditioning.

Painting

The most important element to me is the use of color – particularly in how color itself, rather than shading or composition, affect mood and the viewer’s response.

I am also interested in nature as it appears in a “natural” environment, rather than one where plants and land formations are manipulated or designed by people. To this end, I have concentrated on wild areas, which people often overlook, such as country roadsides – spaces where the plants are not planted or managed. The natural variety and selection is infinitely more interesting and dynamic than anything organized by a person.

I will be drawing and painting.

Printmaking

Taquet studied drawing at the French Beaux Arts of Rouen, France, sumi-e painting in Japan, and printmaking in Montparnasse atelier, Paris, France.

The love of trees, people and older neighborhoods provide the main ingredients for my prints.

Most of the time, color is applied using woodblocks and line work is applied using copper plates.

I will have wood and copper plates along with photos to educate people.

Metal, Wood

I have been a self employed craftsman in metal and wood for 54 years, mainly working on architectural projects for architects and home owners. After selling my business in 2021 I started working on functional and decorative smaller items such as wooden bowls, rustic furniture , whirligigs, weathervanes and sculptures.

My personal taste is for simple utilitarian objects that are to be used and handled daily. Occassionally I find exceptional pieces of wood that become more sculptural objects. The whirligigs are just for fun.

I feel lucky to live in the Driftless area with endless access to local timber. Also I think the beauty and peacefulness that surrounds me is reflected in my work.

I will be discussing bowl design, explaining the orientation and selection of the starting blank piece of wood.

Sculpture

A passionate gardener specializing in outdoor sculpture since 1990, the artist’s fascination for images of ancient cultures and natural forms is reflected in the Garden Spirit Collection. The pieces range from functional to inspirational works of art. This collection of sculpture for home or garden is made of forged and fabricated steel, integrating some copper & brass. Hot forging techniques of the blacksmith and modern fabricating processes are combined to create the Garden Spirits. They are finished with weather resistant paint suitable for indoor/outdoor placement.

Forging techniques with clay. Digital images of forging and fabrication processes.
