Nesja Press
Letterpress Printmaking
tel 608.228.1375
christy.nesja@gmail.com

After decades as a graphic designer behind a computer, Christy found renewed creative fulfillment through letterpress and relief printing. Drawn to the tactile nature of the process, she enjoys setting type, carving linocuts, mixing inks, and operating antique presses. Working with historical printing methods requires patience and skill—sometimes frustrating, but ultimately cathartic.

There is magic in bringing a creative idea to life through ink and paper, a process she embraces with passion. Christy earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin–Stout in 1991, concentrating in Graphic Design with a minor in Journalism.

During the tour, Christy will demonstrate traditional hand typesetting and letterpress printing. Studio guests will be invited to pull their own souvenir print with Christy’s help and instruction.

Our studio is located in our home on a walkout basement level. If stairs are a challenge, park on Highland Street and walk across the grass to the double doors of the studio. There will be one step up into the studio. If you happen to enter our home through our front door or a side door near our garage, you’ll be able to get down to our studio via a split level staircase at the back of our house.

Mixed Media Assemblage

jcnass22@gmail.com

Jane spent the first 40 years of her professional visual arts career in print media, working through design studios and corporate design firms. Today, she applies that design expertise to a more personal artistic focus—expressing gratitude for the beauty and blessings of everyday life.

Guided by faith and inspired by the nature and wildlife surrounding her 15 wooded acres, Jane creates assemblages that reflect her daily experiences and emotions. Through her work, she invites viewers to pause, reflect, and appreciate the wonder in the world around them.

My artist demonstration showcases a meticulous and meditative process of creating word assemblages. Using old books sourced from antique shops and bookstores, the artist carefully cuts and collects words that support a chosen concept. Each word is precisely placed with an X-Acto knife, beginning with a central word or verse, allowing the composition to evolve organically. Every piece is unique, inspired by the artist’s surroundings and deep sense of gratitude for the beauty of nature.

Summit Art Studio
Oil & Cold Wax Painting
tel 608.358.0366
summitartmail@gmail.com

Evolution defines Rick as an artist. A lifelong love of art led to early explorations in drawing and painting, but creative pursuits took a backseat to adulthood. Parenthood reignited that passion, inspiring a return to painting and a renewed appreciation for color and the world around him.
Nature is central to his work, whether expressed through landscapes and still life or the rich textures of oil and cold wax. Rick finds inspiration in history, age, and patina, exploring the stories objects hold.
In addition to being a member of MHAAA, Rick is a member of River Arts Inc., Wisconsin Alliance of Artists and Craftspeople and Wisconsin Visual Artists. His work is represented at The River Arts Gallery and The Paoli Mercantile, with additional appearances in exhibitions, galleries, and art fairs.

During the tour, Rick will be demonstrating the many techniques, tools, and materials used in creating a cold wax work of art. Visitors will be welcome to try out the medium and help create.

Our stop will be at my home. Parking available along a quiet street and flat driveway to our easily accessible garage.

Janis Merkle

Primrose Fiber Art
Fiber & Textiles
tel 608.214.4445
primrosefiberarts@gmail.com

Janis Merkle is a fiber artist specializing in wet felting, a process that bonds loose wool fibers into a solid material using water and agitation. She works primarily with wool, silk fabric, and paper, often incorporating luxury fibers, yarns, beads, decorative stitching, and mark-making to enhance texture and depth. Her work spans both two- and three-dimensional forms, including vessels, sculptures, wall art, and wearable pieces such as scarves and brooches.

Fascinated by the interplay of color and texture, Janis frequently uses hand-painted wool and silk to achieve rich, layered effects. She also explores specialized techniques such as nuno felting—fusing wool with silk to create lightweight, flowing textiles—and joomchi, a Korean paper-felting method that yields distinctive textures. The transformation of raw materials into intricate, seamless creations continues to inspire her, as she pushes the boundaries of fiber art with each piece.

During the tour, Janis will explain how and why the wet felting process causes wool fibers to felt and shrink to create a finished piece of felt. She will have process photos showing various stages in making a wet felted object, examples of the materials and tools I use to create vessels and scarves, and felt samples showing several different techniques. The materials, tools, and samples will all be available for visitors to touch.

Dan Ott

Contemporary Arts & Education LLC
2D Mixed Media
tel 608.354.5104
danottart@gmail.com

Dan Ott creates abstract cut-paper assemblages that celebrate color, light, texture, and composition. Inspired by found materials such as packaging, junk mail, posters, and magazines—as well as his own painting and photography experiments—Dan meticulously cuts and arranges paper squares, ranging from 3 inches to ½ inch, into layered geometric designs. His methodical process explores the relationships between artistic fundamentals and graphic design, resolving competing elements into harmonious compositions.

Each assemblage is both a singular artwork and a collection of intricate, self-contained compositions, inviting closer inspection and discovery. Originally from Manhattan Beach, California, Dan is a fifth-generation Southern Californian who later settled in the Midwest. He earned a BA from Claremont McKenna College, an MAT from Oakland University, and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dan now lives on a farm in Brooklyn, Wisconsin, with her wife, Mary Grace.

During the tour, Dan will have on hand all necessary supplies and materials in order to demonstrate how one of my pieces is created from beginning to end.

Katherine Ford is a lifelong artist and dedicated Wisconsinite who has sketched for personal enjoyment throughout her career in public service. Over the past 20 years, she has focused on watercolor painting, developing a distinctive body of work that captures the beauty of often-overlooked subjects.

Her work has evolved over the years and she has turned her attention to the artistry of fly fishing, interpreting the sculptural elegance of fishing flies and the unique characteristics of fish in striking portraits—allowing the angler to release the fish while preserving its essence on paper. One of her paintings is part of the permanent collection at the SIM Italian Fly-Fishing Museum in Castel di Sangro, Italy.

Since 2017, Ford has shared her work through exhibitions, art shows, and galleries.

During the tour, there will be a demonstration on tying fishing flies to show the 3D sculptures used as the inspiration for the watercolor fishing fly paintings.

Studio is a duplex with parking in the driveway. No steps, wheelchair accessible. Art will be exhibited inside the home and in the garage. The studio is located downstairs and will be available for viewing upon request.
